100 Daftar Lagu Rock 90-an Terbaik Versi bon4lbum
Awal tahun 90-an, adalah awal mula saya memasuki jenjang kuliah. Apa yang mencolok buat saya dimasa itu model rambut anak muda cowo lebih panjang ketimbang cewe. Gaya rambut tersebut seperti layaknya para musisi band-band beraliran hard-rock, glam, metal atau sejenisnya. Dan memang benar sekali bahwa trend musik tersebut masih berlanjut dan digemari. Di awal tahun-tahun tersebut nama-nama 'band-band baru' terus bermunculan, seperti Slaughter, Extreme, Damn Yankees, Skid Row, Bad English dan dengan cepat dapat diterima, terutama bagi para penggemar yang seusia saya, bahkan bagi para penggemar yang 'haus', segala model yang tersedia (entah itu band baru atau lama) disikat habis, mulai dari sekelas Fire House, Alias, The Quireboys, Pretty Boy Floyd, Ugly Kid Joe, Mr Big sampai ke Megadeth, Danzig, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Anthrax ataupun Sepultura dan seabrek lainnya.
Namun rasanya -waktu- cepat sekali berlalu. Kejutan bermula dari datangnya 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik - Red Hot Chilli Peppers'. Gaya funk yang dibawa mereka sulit untuk ditolak. Setelah itu, tanpa terasa trend musik mengalami 'distorsi', secara tiba-tiba serak vocal & gitar ala Grunge mulai marak dimana-mana. Ini terjadi terutama pasca album milik Pearl Jam (Ten), Nirvana (Never Mind) dan Radiohead (Pablo Honey) beredar gencar dipasaran. Beranjak dari situ hingga menuju pertengahan 90-an wajah rock berubah. Dan semakin drastis perubahannya manakala band-band baru asal inggris seperti Oasis, Blur, atau Suede sedang pada puncaknya, dan tanpa basa-basi, britpop meluluhkan hati para remaja 90-an.
Apa yang diistilahkan kemudian? Alternative, sebuah kata yang berkembang jadi populer, yang mungkin buat sebagian orang dipakai untuk menandakan era musik 'pasca Nirvana'. Alternative memayungi beragam sub-genre dibawahnya, dan satu persatu mengangkat band-band baru kepermukaan : Silverchair, Bush, Portishead, Green Day, Stone Tample Pilot , Live, Collective Soul, Prodigy, Rage Against The Machine, Korn dan segudang lainnya, dan itu terus berlanjut hingga mungkin saat sekarang ini. Satu hal yang fenomenal buat saya di era-alternative, ‘OK Computer’ melambungkan popularitas Radiohead dikancah pentas rock dunia. Tema-tema lagu “keterasingan&efek samping dunia modern” yang buat sebagian orang dianggap bikin depresi, malah justru membuat jumlah penggemar mereka bertambah banyak. Disisi lain, munculnya style musik yang dianut para penyanyi wanita seperti : Bjork, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey ataupun Fiona Apple, menjadikan era-alternative dipandang lebih dari sekedar musik populer semata.
